Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) were formed to address the needs of seniors that moved into their homes when they were younger and have since aged in place. The Selfhelp Big Six Towers NORC program is dedicated to maintaining seniors, age 60 and above, in their homes and community by providing a continuum of social services, health and wellness, educational, recreational, and intergenerational programs as well as volunteer opportunities in collaboration with our community partners. A variety of activities are available onsite and weekly bus trips are coordinated. In addition, a part-time nurse is available to answer your health related questions, provide weekly blood pressure screenings, and facilitate monthly health presentations. Subsidized programs include reduced fare transportation to medical appointments, personal emergency response systems (PERS), and affordable housekeeping services. Our goal is to meet the growing needs and interest of clients and we are often adding new and exciting opportunities for seniors. Lastly, our staff of professional social workers can provide case assistance and case management services including assistance with benefit and entitlement applications, supportive counseling, advocacy, information and referrals. Our program is funded in part by the NYC Department for the Aging and the New York State Office for the Aging.
