Dinner and Special Performance Update

UPDATE

On Friday, July 19th, 2013 the Big Six NORC Program held its first dinner time event. The food was wonderful and so was the entertainment! Our very own Krsna Singh and his troupe of dancers dressed in colorful traditional Indian garb showcased different types of Indian dance such as Bollywood, Classical and Chutney. Then, as an extra special treat, those in attendance enjoyed a fashion show showcasing beautiful Sarees, Lehenga, Shalwaar, Gharrara and Kurta Indian fashions. We hope all that attended had a terrific experience and invite all to attend one of our other exciting events! A very special thanks to Krsna Singh and all of the wonderful dancers!

Filing your Taxes and Big Six Income Affidavit

If you have not done so already, now is the time to prepare and file your taxes for 2012.  Even if you receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income, you are still required to file each year.  You likely received documents in the mail that were identified as tax documents.  These documents provide the essential information that will be requested.  There are free and low cost resources available to assist you in this process - click here for a list of click-able resources.  The filing deadline is April 15, 2013

Every Big Six resident should have received an income affidavit form from the management company, Douglas Elliman.  You may find that filing your taxes first will make it easier to complete the affidavit form.  We are to help if you require assistance completing the affidavit for your apartment.  Please contact us at 718-565-6569 to set up an appointment with a member of the NORC staff.  When you visit, please bring your affidavit form and any relevant tax forms.  It is very important that your affidavit is completed and returned by April 31, 2013.  Any residents submitting incomplete or late forms will incur a $150 surcharge from management.

We hope to hear from you very soon!

Selfhelp Big Six Towers NORC is Going Virtual

Welcome to the Selfhelp Big Six NORC blog!  We are thrilled that you have  come to visit us “virtually”.  Please take a few minutes to explore this site.  The NORC's role here at Big Six Towers is to provide social services including case management and case assistance in addition to health and wellness services and educational and recreational programming.  The goal? To safely maintain the independence of residents, ages 60 and older residing in the Big Six Towers Cooperative, for as long as possible.

We are seeking interested NORC participants to contribute to our "Big Six Residents Corner" section of this site.  Submit your poems, short stories, articles, and photography.  All submissions will be reviewed prior to publishing.   Everyone is encouraged to share their works.

Please explore each of the different pages for information about available services, upcoming programs and events, and more.  We are happy to speak with you if you have any questions or require assistance (please see the "Contact Us" tab).
